Kempenfelt Community Players is pleased to present the final production of their 2012 – 2013 season, 9 to 5: The Musical, at Barrie’s Mady Centre for the Performing Arts.

Written by Patricia Resnick, the story is based on the 1980 hit movie by 20th Century Fox, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton. 9 to 5: The Musical tells the story of three rolodex era office workers who conspire to take control of their company from their sexist, egotistical and hypocritical boss. They quickly learn there's nothing they can't do - even in a man's world!

Feisty and fun, the score for 9 to 5: The Musical features Dolly Parton’s original hit title song, 9 to 5, which won her an Oscar nomination and 4 Grammy Award nominations, and 18 original numbers, including Backwoods Barbie and Shine Like the Sun.

KCP’s raucous and hilarious show will be directed by Sandi Laplante, produced by Andrée Day and musically directed by Edwina Douglas. "In two short months the cast and crew have done an amazing job of putting this show together”, said Sandi Laplante, Director. “9 to % offers a bit of everything – comedy, romance, great music, challenging choreography and eye catching costumes and sets, think 1979! It’s sure to be a sell-out! "

The talented cast of 9 to 5: The Musical includes Lindsay Cadieux (Judy Bernly), Trudee Romanek (Violet Newstead), Pam Sparrow (Doralee Rhodes), Kevin Scharf (Franklin M Hart), Stephen Bainborough (Dick/Tinsworthy/Ensemble), Ann Johnston (Roz Keith/Ensemble) and Kevin Jacquemain (Joe). Please visit our show’s page for the full cast list.

“The music is really complicated, at times there can be 6 part harmonies and because there are so many musical styles represented – going from Dixie Chicks to Motown style songs – it utilizes all the skills of this entire talented ensemble!” said Julie Underhill, KCP Board Chair.

KCP’s 9 to 5: The Musical is an outstanding musical comedy that gets you thinking; taking the important social issue of equality and interpreting it in a cheeky and fun way. Supported by great music, solid direction, fun choreography, and excellent performances, this is musical theatre at its finest!

The final show of the season opens Thursday May 2 followed by a post-show reception. The run of 9 to 5: The Musical consists of 8:00 p.m. performances on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. matinees on Sundays, May 2 through May 12 at the Mady Centre. Tickets are $22 for adults and $17 for students, and senior citizens. A rate of $19 for adults and $15 for students and senior citizens is available to groups of 10 or more. Visit the KCP website to order on-line or call the box office at 705.739.4228.
